To my knowledge, few resources exist that help moms and dads learn how to be better Catholic Montessori parents. I created The Hamlet as a place where interested parents can gain specific, practical skills of child raising according to Catholic Montessori principles, regardless of their chosen pedagogy or curriculum.
So many parents have said to me, “My child behaves so differently in the Atrium or Catholic Montessori school than at home.” That’s because a well-formed catechist, directress, or guide is highly trained in how to interact with the child. Of her schools, Maria Montessori speaks of a prepared environment, a prepared child, and a prepared directress. So for the behavior to be consistent at the Atrium or school and at home, this framework must be mirrored at home: a prepared environment, a prepared child, and a prepared parent. My hope and my goal is to help with the last element.
In The Hamlet, we have Featured Conversations. To date, we’ve addressed the topics of Obedience, Concentration, Pedagogical Principles, Patience for Children, and Patience for Parents. Members are always welcome to suggest topics as well!
Raising our children according to Catholic Montessori principles was, and still is, life-changing for our family. I want to lead – and walk with – interested parents down that same path for a more joyful, peaceful home.
